True, but that's orthogonal to whether it's a rat's nest at choice-of-config
time or a rat's nest at choice-of-install time.

I don't think there is any solution that will make everybody happy and
not generate demands for ever finer ways to slice up the build.

Which suggests, in turn, that I should cavalierly ignore the whole
issue and let the packagers fret about it.
