I've read that f2fs is "better" for sd cards than ext4. Yet another 
contemplation with research to go...

Ah, I just remembered, and checked - I had disabled fake-hwclock (which 
does the same), as I was testing out the gpsinit set_system_clock 
command. Which obviously kicks in too late in the startup sequence. 
Another thing to investigate.

Yep - I'm trying to keep my filthy hands off the whole shebang for a 
while in hopes of better stats becoming visible soon.
