What would that do?  I poked around a bit.  An old man page for 
pthread_create says:
         Compile and link with -pthread.
but that's not in a current man page.

I tried it.  ntpd has the same length.  Is there an easy way to tell if 
any of the code changed?

Should we add it, just to be safe on old systems?
Is there any reason not to?
