Leftover junk

What's the right way to get rid of leftover junk?

The recent switch to installing things in PYTHONARCHDIR rather than PYTHONDIR 
left the old versions in PYTHONDIR.  We have had similar problems in the 
ancient past when we renamed programs.

Should we have code that looks for old stuff?  Should it be part of waf 
install, or a stand alone script?

Should we actually remove it, or just point it out and let people remove it by 
hand?
