Until recently this was quite true.

I will note, hoever, that my distaste for threads has not prevented me
from using them well when I concluded nothing else would do.
cvs-fast-export has a little thread-pool scheduler in it that I'm
quite proud of, and irker's organization around a thread-locked queue
turned out to be both effective and pretty.
