How long will they stay around?

My vote would be something like snapshots for point releases stay around 
forever and snapshots for non-releases stay around for a month or two after 
the following point release.

Is there a page on the main web site that explains where to get them and what 
to do to build, test, and install, and run?  Much of that may be after untar, 
look in XXX.
