I need a lesson on gitlab security

Thanks.  It's working again now that I've switched back to git/ssh mode.

I think I figured out what happened.  A while ago (year?) I trashed my 
working directory.  Rather than sort out all the pieces, I made a new 
clone and started over.  Our download page says:
  git clone https://gitlab.com/NTPsec/ntpsec.git
so my new world was running in http mode.
