You can look at what I did and see if it makes sense to ditch it.

This isn't *that* init - it's a *different* init.  This one reinitializes 
a context so that it can be reused, rather than having to allocate a new 
one.  It's not currently used here, but that could change it it's useful.

They all build and work now.  I think there's one that disables itself in 
the "old" case, but it doesn't fail the build.

I just submitted MR !1413 for the updates.
