That's one way to do it.

Gentoo also works out of the box.  Gentoo includes /usr/local/lib, lib32/, a
and lib64/ by default.

Look in /etc/ld.so.conf and etc/ld.so.conf.  JJust different defaults.

That is the Python ntp.ntpdc.py, which loads the libntpc.so using CFFI.
