Ah, OK; the Huygens folks again.  That algorithm very much relies on the
symmetry of the links, so for general NTP application it would need to
be substantially revised.  There was some paper a few years ago of doing
"tomography" on NTP data to determine asymmetric latencies, but that
requires you to trust the clock of systems at various points in the
network absolutely (i.e. they should already be synchronized by
different means, like GPS).
