I think it is a 'Practical Python Porting' bug. The python
man page, cited earlier, says that what that code does is not
always going to work.

For me 3.6.6 works, but not 3.6.5. But it may be something else
as one is Gentoo Stable, and the other is Gentoo Unstable.
