Maybe wrong, but if so, we are the same wrong!

Here is the line:
     if (pp != up->pps_peer->procptr) {

Looks like up->pps_peer is NULL.

The easy part is to just test for NULL.  The hard part is finding our
how did it get NULL when it should not be.
