I think that depends on your target market.  If you are selling a hand 
polished gold plated coffee pot, it probably doesn't matter.

At high volumes, if I can get the job done with a PIC/AVR that costs less 
than $1, that's $4 more profit on each coffee pot sold.  Or reduce the price 
by $1 and undercut your competitor so you can sell many more...
