It may be 12Mbit/sec, but DCD is only sampled about every milliSec.
I'd like to approach the jitter of a PPS over serial. The hard numbers
aer: USB 1.1 is +/-1 milliSec, USB 2.0 gets me +/- 125 microSec.
Direct PPS down to maybe a few microSec.
