What is a release?

Will anybody talking about releases please remember to add the appropriate 
qualifier.


I expect that a major release would get some advance notice and we would stop 
adding features and focus on testing and bug fixes and documentation cleanup. 
 But I suppose a particularly stable point release that users liked could get 
turned into a major release.
